Where to Stay: Springdale or Hurricane
This is the biggest lodging decision for a Zion trip. Springdale puts you at the park's door, and Hurricane gives you services and lower prices at the cost of a drive. Here is how to pick.
The Short Answer
Stay in Springdale if walking into the park matters most to you and your budget allows it. Stay in Hurricane if price and practical services matter more and you do not mind driving to the park each day. Our planning guide names Springdale as the default base and Hurricane and St. George as the budget alternatives.
What Springdale Gives You
- A walk to the park. Our planning guide says the town runs up to the park's pedestrian entrance, so you can walk in.
- Dining, coffee and outfitters in town, so you can go straight from a hike to dinner. See best restaurants in Springdale.
- Higher prices. Our Hurricane guide notes that prices in Springdale run higher, and our planning guide says summer months need to be booked far ahead.

What Hurricane Gives You
- Services Springdale lacks: grocery stores, chain restaurants and affordable motels, according to our Hurricane guide.
- Lower prices, in exchange for the loss of walk-in access to the park.
- A gateway to Sand Hollow Reservoir, a warm-water reservoir, and to the Kolob Canyons section of Zion.
