Why Go

St. George is not a destination in its own right, but it is an invaluable base if you are arriving by air, covering multiple parks, or need big-city services near Zion. It has a regional airport (SGU), a full hospital, wide dining and shopping, and easy access to Snow Canyon State Park.

What It Means for a Zion Trip

Springdale is small, so for a hospital, a large grocery store, or most big-box services you will drive to St. George, about 40 miles west. That makes it the place to fly into, restock, and handle anything urgent. The picture here shows Zion's east side, not St. George.

Where to Stay and Eat

Expect a wider range of hotels and restaurants than any small town on the route; we have not reviewed specific St. George businesses, so look for options and check current listings. Who St. George Suits

It suits travelers flying in, families who want more choice in food and shopping, and anyone building a multi-park itinerary. If you want to wake up beside the red cliffs instead, Springdale is the better base and St. George is the supply run.
