Places Near Zion

Bryce Canyon National Park

Where Zion is canyon and river, Bryce is plateau and sky. Its hoodoos - thin spires of eroded limestone - crowd together in amphitheaters that look like nothing in Zion. It is the easiest add-on from Zion.

Why Go

Bryce is the easiest way to add a second, completely different landscape to a Zion trip. The park's famous hoodoos pack together in amphitheaters below the rim, and the scenery is nearly the opposite of Zion's walls-and-river canyon. Our photography section includes a Bryce set if you want a preview.

What It Means for a Zion Trip

The Zion and Bryce pairing is the classic Utah road trip, and the site's Utah Mighty 5 guide calls Bryce the easiest add-on from Zion - about 1.5 hours away, so it works as either a long day trip or an overnight. A Zion and Bryce combination also makes a superb long weekend if you are short on time. The route runs on a scenic drive through Red Canyon.

Where to Stay and Eat

Most people keep Springdale as their Zion base, so start with where to stay near Zion and where to eat. If you overnight near Bryce instead, look for lodging and restaurants close to the park - this site has not yet reviewed any there, so check current listings and the park's own site.

Getting There from Springdale

Bryce sits east of Zion and is reached by road from Springdale; plan on roughly an hour and a half each way, plus time to actually walk the rim. For the wider picture of how Bryce fits with the other national parks, see all places near Zion.
