Zion Shuttle Updates
Getting up the canyon is the one piece of Zion logistics that changes with the calendar. This page will not tell you what is running today. It tells you where to look, and what the seasonal pattern usually is.

The Seasonal Pattern
Think of Zion Canyon as having two modes. In one you ride, in the other you drive. Which mode you get depends on the month, and the exact switchover dates move from year to year, so treat everything below as a pattern rather than a schedule.
The Zion Canyon shuttle typically runs from mid-March through late November, and when it is operating it is mandatory up the scenic drive. [VERIFY: nps.gov]
In winter the shuttle typically pauses from early December into early March, and the scenic drive then opens to private vehicles. [VERIFY: nps.gov]
The shoulders of that window are where people get caught out. Late March and late November are the weeks when the switch is most likely to land on top of your trip, so those are the dates to double-check first. [VERIFY: nps.gov]
Planning for Each Mode
Ride months
Spring, summer and fall are the busy stretches, and the best-time guide points out that entering the park before 8am or after 3pm and visiting midweek both take the edge off the rush. [VERIFY: nps.gov] Build your day around that.
Drive-your-own months
Winter is the off-peak payoff. With the road open to your own car you can stop at pullouts, linger at viewpoints, and move at your own pace, which is something the rest of the year does not allow. Days are short, so plan accordingly. Our Zion in winter guide covers the full picture.
Questions worth answering before you go
- Is the canyon shuttle running on your dates, or has it paused for the season? [VERIFY: nps.gov]
- Has the route or schedule changed since last year? [VERIFY: nps.gov]
- Is any stop or road along the canyon closed or restricted right now? [VERIFY: nps.gov]
- What is the forecast for the morning you plan to start? See weather and conditions.
Why This Page Has No Live Status
Anything we posted here would be stale by the time you read it. The park updates its own pages as things change, and those are the pages to trust. Use this page to know what to ask, then get the answer from the source. For the rest of our updates hub, head back to News & Updates.
